Josie Rourke and Kate Pakenham announce their departure from the Donmar Warehouse

It will be announced today that we’re stepping down from the Donmar. We have been privileged to run this theatre with an incredible team of people. Josie’s last show will be in early 2019, after eight years as Artistic Director. Kate will leave the Donmar in June 2018.

Throughout its history, the Donmar’s stage has been the home to many extraordinary performances, productions, and great nights out. Partnerships, here and in New York, have allowed us to extend our work into schools and prisons; to King’s Cross, the West End and Broadway houses; and onto screens in homes and cinemas across the world. We’d like to express our gratitude to those partners, and – above all – the people who made that work. Thanks to you, the Donmar’s future feels bright.

It has been a huge joy, a great challenge and a real honour to run this theatre. We were proud to be the first two women to run a major London theatre, and are fortunate to have been able to play our part in the changing landscape of British theatre over our time at the Donmar.

The Board will shortly begin its search for the Donmar’s new Artistic Director. We hope that you will join us for this, our final year of work on the Donmar’s stage.

Yours,

Josie and Kate
