Barbara Houseman

Barbara Houseman has worked in theatre for over 45 years. She spent six years in the world renowned Voice Department at the Royal Shakespeare Company, working alongside Cicely Berry. She was then Associate Director at the Young Vic, alongside Tim Supple. For the last 26 years she has been freelance. Among other clients she has coached Jessie Buckley, Cush Jumbo, Jude Law and Daniel Radcliffe. She was Season Associate Director-Voice & Text at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from 2014 to 2022. She has worked on numerous shows including Evening All Afternoon, When We Are Married, Natasha, Pierre and the Comet of 1812; Fear of 13, Macbeth, The Human Body,  All Female Shakespeare Trilogy, Coriolanus, Les Liaisons Dangerous and St Joan (Donmar); The Ferryman, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night time and Equus (Gielgud); Endgame, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Duchess of Malfi, Design for Living and Playboy of the Western World (The Old Vic); Titus Andronicus and Cyrano de Bergerac (RSC); Macbeth, Richard III and Dr Faustus (Jamie Lloyd Company). She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Connecticut,  author of Finding Your Voice and Tackling Text and Actor Food Masterclasses “Developing Your Voice” and “Bringing the Text to Life”. She is an Advanced SOLignment Breath and Embodiment Process facilitator.
