Fran Kranz

Fran Kranz is an acclaimed writer, director, and actor whose work spans film, television, and the stage. He first gained recognition as a performer, most recently starring opposite George Clooney in the record-breaking Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck, directed by David Cromer. 

In 2021, Kranz turned his creative attention to writing and directing, with his debut feature Mass premiering at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. The film stars Jason Isaacs, Martha Plimpton, Reed Birney, and Ann Dowd, who received a BAFTA nomination for her performance. Released by Bleecker Street, the film earned an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Screenplay, as well as the Robert Altman Award.

As an actor, Kranz’s film credits include The Cabin in the WoodsMuch Ado About NothingThe Dark TowerTraining DayDonnie Darko, and The Village. On television, he is well known for his role as Topher on Dollhouse, and has appeared in Julia (HBO Max), The Loudest Voice (Showtime), Homecoming (Amazon), and will recur in Season 3 of Apple TV+’s Invasion.

Kranz has also appeared on Broadway in Death of a Salesman (Tony Award–winning revival) and You Can’t Take It With You, and Off-Broadway at The Public Theater and Second Stage. He is a graduate of Yale University, where he trained extensively in classical theatre.
