Training Opportunities

CATALYST Trainee Programme

We work with outstanding emerging artists and administrators, investing in their professional development and offering continued support through our vibrant alumni community. Our paid training programmes are fully embedded within the organisation and all of our work that we produce onstage.

CATALYST Creative

Mentored by industry-leading creatives, CATALYST assistant designers receive bespoke training in Lighting Design, Sound Design, and Set and Costume Design on our productions.

This programme supports early-career designers whose identities have historically been underrepresented, providing practical experience, creative development and access to professional networks within the industry.

CATALYST Administrators

Through this year-long programme, we create bespoke experiences for emerging theatre administrators, preparing them for a career in the arts sector.

CATALYST Administrators are embedded within the Development and Participation teams, supporting the delivery of a wide range of projects and gaining hands-on experience across the organisation. This programme is for those whose identities have historically been underrepresented at the Donmar and within the wider sector.

Resident Assistant Director Scheme

Our Resident Assistant Director (RAD) scheme is well established in the sector as a training opportunity for exceptional early-career directors; with previous RADs including Rupert Goold, Lynette Linton, Roisin McBrinn and Josie Rourke.

Each year, the RAD works as an assistant director on productions and contributes to Casting, Literary, Programming and Participation. During their time with us, they are embedded in our organisation, gaining insight into how a producing theatre operates and valuable experience both in and out of the rehearsal room.
