KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN
Kiss of the Spiderwoman is an intricate and powerful portrayal of two men who are forced to share a cell in a Latin American jail. One is a young Marxist rebel punished for his ideals, the other a romantic fantasist condemned for his sexuality. Through the glamorous world of the movies, an unlikely relationship is formed that offers both men the hope of survival.
Argentinian playwright, screenwriter and novelist Manuel Puig (1932 – 1990) lived in exile most of his life. Among his best known works are the novels Betrayed by Rita Hayworth, Heartbreak Tango and Kiss of the Spider Woman – the latter was made into a film by Héctor Babenco and later into a play and Broadway musical.
